All About WIYLDE
WIYLDE is a week to gather with Lutheran high school youth from around the state of Iowa to build relationships,
develop leadership skills, celebrate community, and grow in faith. The week includes group activities, Bible studies, games,
music, worship, and lots of laughter. Join us for a WIYLDE time!
Cost: $99 (We suggest $50 from home congregation, $49 from student). Includes room and board and program fees.
WIYLDE is designed to involve youth in their home congregations to help practice and
develop leadership skills and ideas learned during WIYLDE.
WIYLDE is a collaboration between Lutheran Campus Ministry, the three Iowa Synods, and several congregations
offering staff we are thankful to all!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is WIYLDE?
WIYLDE (Wholly Iowa Youth Leadership and Discipling Event) is designed for youth, grades 9-12. It is
a youth ministry leadership workshop. It is an opportunity for young people to grow in their own faith and take
that back to their home congregations to provide leadership in the youth ministry program. This is the fourth year
for WIYLDE and we will have several third year (or greater) students back who will provide peer leadership for the first and
second year students.
Who is WIYLDE for?
WIYDLE is for any high school age youth who wishes to grow in his or her relationship with God and role
as a leader in his or her own church. Although WIYLDE is specifically aimed at youth within the three Iowa synods
of the ELCA, anyone who wishes to take the next step in their faith and grow in their leadership is invited to attend.
How do I register?
Your pastor or youth leader should be have registration forms on hand. Luther's vocation office also has forms which
may be obtained by contacting Connie Barclay, Vocation Program Secretary, at (563) 387-1327 or
barcco01@luther.edu.
Check in will take place Monday, June 23 from noon to 2:00 p.m. at Farwell Hall (lower campus). You will unload and check into your room at that time.
What is the registration fee?
The fee is only $99 this year. That is a reduction from previous years because Luther College's
"Sense of Vocation" program is underwriting WIYLDE this year. It has been suggested to pastors that the church pay
$50 and the participant $49, but that is optional. Contact your pastor about what help the church might be able to provide.
What should I bring?
The weather will be warm so bring clothing appropriate for that. Please be careful, however, that
clothing is appropriate for a church environment. A swim suit is a must, as well as some grubbies that you don't
mind getting dirty. Old tennis shoes for tubing down the river are good, too. We will have one or two dress up
occasions so bring something you would wear to church. A little spending money for Whippy Dip runs or souvenirs is
helpful but all your meals are provided. Bring your Bible, too, for, after all, this is a church related event!
WIYLDE participants suggest bringing an extra blanket because the dorms can be cold.
What happens in an emergency?
Luther College provides security 24 hours a day so if there are any problems, help is available.
Counselors should be contacted immediately. Also, there are dorm personnel on duty for help as needed. Parents, if
you need to get ahold of your student during the day, call Connie Barclay in the College Ministries Office at
(563) 387-1327. Otherwise, all calls during the evening and night should be directed to (563) 387-2000. There are
phone cards for sale in the Luther Book Shop if participants need access to long distance service.
For questions or registration information, contact Conney Barkley, Vocation Program Secretary, Luther
College, (563) 387-1327,
