South Enes Lutheran Church

History

South Enes Lutheran Church was established in 1900 when several Lutheran lay men living in or near Vincent, Iowa, decided to organize two congregations. Acting on their need to hear the Word of God and to receive the Sacraments, those men chose to establish one congregation in the Town of Vincent and one about 5 miles Northeast of Vincent on the Southeast corner. The Congregations were named North Enes and South Enes Lutheran Churches. Between April 9 and October 8, 1900, the South Enes building was constructed. The first worship service in the new church was held Sunday October 11, 1900. In 1925 an addition was constructed on the West side of the building. In December 1904 the Congregation was joined with the Lutheran Church in Thor. In 1906 it was decided to add an English worship service to supplement the Norwegian Service. In 1919 the church became affiliated with the Badger Lutheran Church until 1944. We shared a Pastor with Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe, Iowa, from 1944 to 1997. Then the South Enes Lutheran Church began sharing ministry with Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, Iowa.
