WHAT IS GENESIS? |
Genesis is a brand new
paint. It’s chemically similar to an acrylic but it’s look and feel are
more like that of an oil based paint. Problems with drying time, odor, toxicity, set-up and clean-up have been eliminated. Genesis gives me the freedom to paint with complete and total control.. |
What's so special about Genesis? |
As I said before, Genesis
is odorless and non-toxic--perfect for those who have allergy problems with oils or
acrylics. Genesis pigments are tested to be the highest quality, lightfast rating
available. The colors do not change or shift as they dry. And all of the colors have the
same viscosity, so blending is easy. Genesis is a thixotropic medium, meaning they are thick and stiff in the jar but become very creamy when mixed or stirred. Last, but not least, Genesis Paints dry on demand! |
Are there mediums? |
There are 3 Genesis Mediums. The Thinning Medium is used to thin the paint and to clean brushes. The Glazing Medium also thins but is primarily used for glazing techniques. These two mediums should be used at a ratio of not more than 40% to the paint. Thick Medium is the same medium as the paint and can be used in any proportion to the paint as an extender or for impasto techniques. Watch for the NEW Genesis Gel Medium which is thicker than the traditional Glazing Medium and easier to use. It also has no limitations on the amount that may be used. |
| Can I mix Genesis with oil or acrylic paints? | No. They have very different chemistries from Genesis and the results are unpredictable. |
| How long does it take Genesis to dry? | Genesis doesn’t "air dry" like oils, acrylics or watercolors. It stays wet forever—or until you heat the paint to about 250 degrees. That means you can paint as long as you like and the paint will not dry. You never have to redo your color mixes. You never have paint dry in your brushes—you don’t ever have to clean your brushes!!! |
So how do you get the paint to dry? |
When you want Genesis to dry, just heat it to 250 degrees. I like to dry Genesis in my kitchen oven. I preheat the oven to 275 degrees, turn it off, and place the wet painting inside. Close the oven door for about five minutes. That is all it takes for a thin coat of paint. You may want to adjust the drying time according to how thick your paint is and what type of surface it is on. You can also use the Genesis Heat Gun, Genesis Oven, a space heater, or an embossing gun to dry the paint. |
| What brushes and other supplies do I use? | You can use your favorite brushes, but clean any oil from them. Sealers, Mediums, and varnish are all available from Genesis. Use paper towels instead of rags for clean-up since Genesis will never dry in a rag. |
| How do you clean-up? | Since Genesis doesn’t dry in the brushes, clean-up isn’t normally necessary. If you wish to clean the brushes, just use warm water and any grease dissolving detergent such as "Dawn" or "Murphy’s Oil Soap". You can also use odorless terp or mineral spirits but keep in mind that they are not non-toxic as is Genesis. You may want to try the new nontoxic Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner with Genesis. |
| What do you say about Genesis? | I know it sounds too good to be true. My recommendation is TRY GENESIS. You will like it. |
