Subject: tale of a teacher holding his ground
I came across this interesting tale on the K-12 math usesnet group and thought that perhaps someone could help this person. Mary

Subject: Use of calculators in the classroom (pro's and con's)
I need to find all of the information that I can get my hands on concerning the use of calculators in the classroom both the pro's and con's.
Why you ask? My father-in-law is being administratively disciplined, and one of the charges has to do with his not allowing his students to use calculators in class and on tests. Two other "charges" against him are not standing in the hallway in between classes ("Hallway Duties" were not assigned), and not "curving" his grades to allow more of his students to pass his class. (These are the same students who ask if 1-800-YOU-FAIL is a real math help number.) Sound silly??? this is no joke.
any Web site URL's, newspaper articles, or documentation with verifiable sources will be appreciated
Thanks for the help,
John Straw
