[Response to previous unarchived mesage]

Your too late, this is part of our regular curriculum but we present the material at the 9th grade level when the kids are mature enough to "understand" the meaning and they can better relate.

Be aware that the book, "Black like me" is making a big comeback and one of the major questions on the test is: "Describe what it is like to be a Black person." Ty's answer was "I wouldn't know, I've never been black." Another question was: "Do you think this story is true? Ty's answer was: "Of course it is true but please explain why we are to question the story?

No help from Mom on this one but I did read the book shortly after it was written and I still have a copy. When Ty showed up in the classroom with his own personal copy (1st edition) the teacher tried to "quiz" him about what other "books" might be in our library.

I made a list (45 pages), including the titles to all of the OBE literature and sent it to the teachers, she hasn't questioned Tyrel since. If the poor teacher only knew, we have more books in our library than our town's public library. It's huge and it isn't junk.

Remember to be vigilant, lest they sneak one past you.
