It was through the initiative of the Talcott & Watson families that the Moorland Congregational Church was built. They started as a Sunday School in 1885 meeting in a schoolhouse and in the Talcott home in the winter. During the spring of 1886 they met in the railroad depot in Moorland. Rev. L.L. West from Fort Dodge conducted services every other Sunday. In December 1887, twenty-one people became members of the Union Congregational Church. A church was built and dedicated in 1890. Funds for building the church were raised by subscription and some missionary aid. As the church was being built, friends gave so liberally that the building was finished and dedicated free of debt at a cost of $1,200. The Women's Society raised funds for the construction of a parsonage. During the years, a basement was put under the church and the church has been remodeled twice. In 1929 the south wing was built and in 1959 a major improvement was made when classrooms and modern entrances were added. In November 1967 the name was changed from Congregational Church to United Church of Christ. Through the years many articles have been purchased with memorial money or given in memory of Loved Ones, which greatly enhance the church. In 1997, the 38 members of the church celebrated 110 years as a congregation.
